EXCLUSIVE: Scott Bakula is set as the lead of NBC’ multicamera comedy pilot Table For Three (form. Daddy’s Girls). The project, written by Dana Klein and directed by Pam Fryman, centers on Pen (Christine Woods), a responsible, guarded, brilliant but emotionally challenged Harvard Medical School graduate who just returned from a stint with Doctors Without Borders to discover that her beloved dentist dad, Robert (Bakula), has become engaged to Pen’s high school classmate Holly (Nicky Whelan) – a 29-year-old bubbly blonde who happens to be the “mean girl” in high school. 20th Century Fox TV is producing, with Klein and Aaron Kaplan executive producing. For Bakula, Daddy’s Girls comes on the heels of a two-season run as one of the leads of the acclaimed TNT dramedy Men Of A Certain Age. He is the second of Men‘s 3 stars to book the lead of a broadcast pilot, along with Andre Braugher, set to star in the ABC drama Last Resort. Table For Three also reunites Bakula with NBC where he starred on Quantum Leap and recurred on Chuck. ICM-repped Bakula is next doing a major arc in the final 5 episodes of ABC’s Desperate Housewives.

IFC Films Acquires Sundance Comedy 'Sleepwalk With Me …

March 10th, 2012

IFC Films has acquired North American rights to Sleepwalk With Me, the Sundance Film Festival movie from comedian Mike Birbiglia. The company also acquired rights to the film in several other territories.

Birbiglia directed and stars in the movie based on his own experiences as a comedian whose life is upended by dangerous bouts of sleepwalking. He also co-wrote and produced it with Ira Glass, host of Chicago Public Media’s public radio show This American Life, to which Birbiglia contributes.

Birbiglia, who suffers from REM behavior disorder, has shared his personal experiences as a sleepwalker in his off-Broadway show Sleepwalk with Me, and a book of partly the same name (Sleepwalk with Me and Other Painfully True Stories, a 2011 Thurber Prize for American Humor finalist and New York Times best seller).

The film, which premiered Jan. 23 in Sundance’s Next section, stars Lauren Ambrose and Birbiglia as the burgeoning stand-up comic who struggles with his career, love life and sleepwalking. Birbiglia’s real-life sleepwalking disorder caused him to jump out of the second-story window of a hotel in Walla Walla, Wash. A version of the incident is shown in the film.

In January, Birbiglia told The Hollywood Reporter that over the course of performing his Sleepwalk With Me play, which bowed in November 2008, he and Glass linked up and decided to make it into a film.

“It was hands down the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, hands down — nothing even compares — and I came away going, ‘That was hard. I want to do that again,’” Birbiglia said.

Birbiglia’s brother, Joe Birbiglia and theater director Seth Barrish co-wrote the film. Glass and Jacob Jaffke produced.

IFC and its various labels acquired seven other 2012 Sundance films, including Predisposed, Simon Killer and Liberal Arts.

Comedy Event To Fund New Bill Of Rights Monument « Geeks With …

March 10th, 2012

A new monument is coming to Wesley Bolin plaza, across from the state Capitol.

This one doesn’t honor a person or veterans of a war, but the U.S. Constitution’s Bill of Rights.

What is the Bill of Rights? The first ten amendments to the Constitution.

It guarantees, to name a few — freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, the right to bear arms, trial by jury, and so on.

This monument will be the first of its kind in the United States.

“The bill of rights is the heart of the constitution, the most important document in human history, but there’s not a single monument of it. Arizona is going to have the first,” says Chris Bliss from mybillofrights.org.-[source]
